Just for fun

First day of lockdown.
Today the kids and I went for a brisk walk around the harbour area, and came across these friendly animals.

You can find them too, if someone in your family has an iPhone or Samsung. All you need to do is : go to chrome, search an animal - start with Tiger.  Scroll down until you see this
Image may contain: textthen click on view in 3D. It takes a while, but another screen should pop up, and at the top it says AR, and then you should be able to position it wherever you are.
It doesn't work with all animals, but definitely these ones: Hedgehog, Tiger, Lion, Horse, ,Penguin, Wolf, Dog, Panda, Shark, Alligator, Bear...

Have a go, you could save your picture to a google doc or slide, and create a piece of writing about it!

I will be in touch with your parents over the next couple of days about online learning. In the meantime, remember you can work on the blogging challenges below this post!

Let's start the 'Blogging Challenge'

This week, there are three tasks in the blogging challenge. Everyone has two weeks to complete the Week One tasks, meaning we will each have two sessions blogging to achieve these three things.

Week Seven

1. Make your own avatar, and upload it to your blog. Go to http://avatarmaker.abi-station.com/index_en.shtml and make an avatar that looks like you. Download it once you are done. On Blogger, go to settings, user settings, user profile - edit, and update your profile photo.

Then, write a new blog post explaining how your avatar looks similar to you. Upload the photo of your avatar to this blog post too.

Fill out this Google form with the URL of your blog post - this is how others are able to see and comment on your blog! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf47bCnHAsujvxr6ORhuIzv7QsWxj96lqNnYPeu_-a9jaGBoQ/viewform

Week Eight

2. Write an 'About' column on your page, introducing yourself to other bloggers. Tell people your first name, your age/year level, and about some of your interests. Go to Blogger, layout, then add a sidebar gadget 'Text.' Click save arrangement once you have written a little about yourself.

3. Visit other people's blogs and leave comments! Scroll to the bottom of this page https://studentchallenge.edublogs.org/mar-2020-students/ and select some blogs to look at. Read what the bloggers have posted, and comment on th
eir posts.

Get NZ Writing

Over the last few weeks, Room 17 have been learning about different types of poetry through a 'Get Nz Writing' kit. We have had different mapping activities to partake in and discussions around local landmarks, great places to visit and local food to try. Today we finished our kit, and are now sending 32 postcards that form a SESTINA and a poem we collaborated with Kendrick Smithyman on to St Paul's College in Rotorua.

A little about us....

Introducing the wonderful Room 17 for 2020...
We're now in Week 7 of Term 1. We have had a fabulous start to the year, with loads of 'Getting to Know Each Other' activities.
We had our bike and scooter trip to the gardens yesterday, where we showed knowledgeable, safe skills on the road.  It was a fun day out, with everyone showing off their best manners and smiling faces!
